Presence - that quiet strength that comes from being completely comfortable where you are.
I noticed the horse’s stillness and self-possession, the raised ear, attentive eye and upright stance giving him a sense of awareness without tension. He felt alert to the world around him, yet entirely grounded within himself.
The painting began as an exploration of earthy pigments, water and the way colour moves and separates across canvas, behaving differently from paper. As the horse emerged, those qualities seemed to become part of his presence, fluid and alive, yet with a quiet solidity underneath.
